About moelfamau.com

An independent guide to Moel Famau and the Clwydian Range, created by someone who loves the mountain.

About This Website

Welcome to moelfamau.com — an independent, non-commercial guide to Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range and one of the finest viewpoints in North Wales.

This site was created out of a genuine love for the mountain and a desire to share it with others. Moel Famau deserves to be better known — it is accessible, dramatic, rich in wildlife, and surrounded by beautiful villages and excellent pubs. Whether you are visiting for the first time or have been walking here for years, we hope you find something useful here.

The landscape photographs on this site were taken personally on Moel Famau or from its slopes, across many seasons and many visits. The mountain looks different every single time — that is part of what makes it so special. Wildlife and plant photographs on the Nature page are sourced from iNaturalist and Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons licences.

What You'll Find Here

  • Walking Routes — Three mapped routes from 3.6km to 12km, with an interactive map and detailed descriptions.
  • Wildlife & Nature — Information on the birds, mammals and plants found on the mountain, including the black grouse conservation programme.
  • Where to Eat & Drink — The best local pubs, from The Druid Inn in Llanferres to The Raven in Llanarmon-yn-Ial.
  • Live Weather — Current weather conditions for the summit area on the home page, updated automatically.

Accuracy & Updates

We aim to keep all information as accurate and up to date as possible. However, conditions on the mountain change, paths can be diverted, and businesses can alter their opening hours or close. Always check official sources and local information before visiting, especially for walks in poor weather conditions.

Walking route distances and timings are approximate. Always carry a current OS map (Explorer 265), a compass, and appropriate clothing.
